UIL makes changes to COVID-19 protocol

The University Interscholastic League (UIL) announced changes to the guidelines to mitigate the risk of COVID-19.

The changes will apply for the entire 2020-21 school year and is effective immediately, with the UIL emphasizing on how critical schools do their part to enforce the set guidelines.

School policy for COVID-19 guidelines do vary from district to district for some in different parts of the state. It is also recommended for schools to designate a staff member to serve as compliance officers to oversee the use of the protocols given for school districts.

All employees, parents, visitors and students of the age of 10 or higher are required to wear masks upon entry to an UIL activity and when not actively participating in the competition. The exceptions include those that have a medical condition or disability, consuming food or drink, swimming or in a group that is maintaining social distancing.

Bands, cheerleaders, drill teams and other student groups that are not involved in the game should be separated from the players, are required to wear face masks and maintain social distancing.

Any players, school personnel or fan that contract COVID-19 or have been exposed, are required to quarantine for 14 days.
