Five points from regional tournament weekend

Rhyle McKinney is good at the game of basketball: McKinney scored the first 26 points and finished with a game-high 33 points that led Argyle to their seventh consecutive state tournament trip and seek their sixth straight state title, a feat that has never been done before. The Lady Eagles open up their state tournament campaign against Fredericksburg on Friday.

The streak is broken: Martin’s Mill’s winning streak of 116 games came to an abrupt halt in the regional final, where they fell to Muenster, 47-45. Muenster make their first state tournament appearance for the first time since 2011.

Fairfield fight off Hardin-Jefferson: In a physical game that saw 52 fouls that were called, Fairfield used fast break layups and the free throw line to punch their ticket to San Antonio for the first time since 2011.

Welcome back, Judson: Junior guard Kierra Sanderlin made 19 points in the fourth quarter that led the defending state champs back to the Alamodome. The Lady Rockets are riding a 17-game winning streak heading into the state tournament.

Shallowater victorious in the rubber match: After splitting the two district meetings, Shallowater prevailed in a physical match-up with Idalou that saw the Fillies lead 9-0 in the early stages of the game that proved to be a key. The Lady Cats shot 50 percent from the line in comparision to Shallowater’s 75 percent, all attempts came in the fourth quarter.

Droughts broken
