Field announced for 64th annual Whataburger Tournament

After not fielding UIL teams last year due to the coronavirus epidemic, the Whataburger tournament is returning and as usual, the field is stacked with talent.

16 teams from across the state will venture to Saginaw for the annual Christmas tournament that is one of the premier small school tournaments in the state.

“We are very excited about this year’s group of teams, as we have a great mix of new teams into our field along with some very recognizable, returning teams,” said Tom Rogers, Whataburger Tournament Director. “We greatly appreciate the support from our fans and the continued support from our sponsors Whataburger, Dr. Pepper, Radisson and the City of Mansfield.”

State champions Canyon and Dodd City headline the event along with perennial power Nazareth, Tuscola Jim Ned, Wall Sunnyvale and Ponder that will add talent to an already loaded field.

Arygle Liberty Christian, the 2019 tournament champions, are also returning to the field.

Regional champions Bishop will be coming from the Coastal Bend to the Metroplex to take part as they won Region IV in 3A this past season.

Gunter will bring eyes to the tournament with their tournament appearance and are looking for a big playoff run this year.

Little River Academy, Bridgeport, Maypearl, Midlothian Heritage, Peaster and Seminole round out the 16-team tournament field that surely add talent and depth to a tournament that is a must-attend for any high school basketball fan.

The tournament will take place on December 28 -30.
