Texas Basketball Championships releases contingency plan

As the state watched the governor make the announcement of keeping schools closed the remainder of the school year and the UIL canceling the remainder of the spring sports season, the Texas Basketball Championships (TBC) annouced their plan moving forward in the summer.

With Texas 7-on-7 canceling their SQT season and state tournament, TBC have canceled all SQTs in May to align with the governor’s annoucement. June SQTs are a “wait-and-see” status but likely to be canceled.

The TBC summer state tournament, which is scheduled to take place in June 19-21, have an alternative date set on July 16-18, potentially being held in Mansfield. With no SQTs taking place, all high school and TAPPS teams are open to registering to the tournament, with a 128 team total for both boys and girls.

Varsity coaches looking to be a part of the tournament can make a $50 deposit to be guaranteed a spot in the tournament and will be refunded if the tournament is forced to be canceled.

Those that are not familiar with the TBC tournament format, each team can potentially get at least five games, the bracket is separated by classification.
